First invited by Auburn University in 2016, Bob Vermillion gave a particularly interesting presentation on “CubeSats Require ESD Handling Protocols for Launch & Space Survivability” to an enthusiastic audience of university students, aerospace, NASA civil servants and academic researchers.
Due to the fact that the academic researcher, prime contractor, start-up or high school student may only have one chance to launch a cubesat, the need for better functionality is becoming more of a hot topic today as stated by a University attendee at the most recent 2017 AAQ Workshop, University of Alabama, Huntsville on 13 October.
Bob Vermillion, a SME Electrostatics for NASA, is the Industry Authority on proper protocols for ESD testing & evaluation, troubleshooting, protective packaging, handling and long term storage requirements specific to Aerospace & Defense requirements. An iNARTE Certified ESD & Product Safety Engineer, Bob Vermillion is the SAE G19A Packaging Engineering CoChair for EEE Parts.
In response to Industry and Government collaborative efforts for the advancement of CubeSat technologies, the RMV new and innovative "CubeSat Materials Handling Hands on" training will be offered onsite at the RMV Training Center for a one or two day session. At no additional cost to the attendee, a one hour examination will be offered in which the student will be able to receive a 2-Year RMV CubeSat Packaging & Materials Handling Certificate (80% is passing).
Mr. Vermillion will also include the requirements for CubeSat assembly/fabrication by following the Mission Assurance Guidelines for Class A through D and lower in defining the correct ESD handling protocols and storage of small spacecraft technologies.
