Bob Vermillion, CEO/Founder, RMV Technology Group, a NASA Industry Partner and SAE G-19A Co-chair for the Subgroup Committee on Packaging of EEE Parts, briefed the audience of DoD, DOE and NASA Contractors and Civil Servants on the need for Supplier Compliance that includes protective packaging of components, parts, sensitive electronics and other items that are commonly ordered and stocked by multiple agencies, their contractors, subcontractors, and distributors.

The steady stream of questions from different agency representatives makes quite a statement about the need for the end user, contractor and distributor to not only address the component or part, but also the outside protective packaging when shipping, receiving or storing a product over time.

Traditionally, the Incoming Inspection/Quality Manager or Buyer pays close attention to the part or component technical specifications yet does not consider the external packaging which, according to Bob Vermillion, SME Electrostatic Materials, Packaging & Products, is the "First Line of Defense"  for Incoming Inspection.

By listening to Bob's briefing on what we have found in over 20 years of T&E for mission critical parts and components including ultra sensitive parts plus off-the-shelf components (COTS), the outside packaging can  be non-compliant and not meet Industry Specifications, a poor or inadequate design, a non-compliant static sensitive material, or, equally, suspect counterfeit outside packaging that can be identified by simple testing techniques for benchmarking of further testing, if necessary.

Considering today's effluent rise of counterfeits in the supply chain, it is not surprising that Bob had so many questions. In particular, our concerns at RMV Technology Group are the Warfighter and the soldiers that we here to protect whether in training, in the operating room or in theatre.
